Committing a felony via insurance fraud is always hillarious.
Should of put 3 smiley faces after that post.

Re: Outdrive snapped in half!

Thanks everyone for your concern. No one was hurt at all and we made it back to shore thanks to the paddles and a kind passing boater who noticed we were rowing.
As for when the outdrive snapped - it actually wasn't a hard stop. It seemed more like I had just cut the throttle and hadn't hit anything. Kinda confusing to me, because I would have thought that hitting something hard enough to break the drive would have left some of us in the water. Could it be a possibility that the drive had fractured some time earlier and with the stress of a full boat and almost full throttle it just couldn't handle it? After it broke a friend actually mentioned duck tape. :)
Also, got another question. HORRAH for iboats!!!! I got some time today and took the gimble ring and bellows off, but I couldn't get the shift cable to pull out. I unhooked it from the shift assembly on top of the engine and got enough slack to get the bellows off, but the cable has to come off to put a new bellow on. I downloaded the manual, but I'm still scratchin my head. Everything looks good in the gimble housing. No crackes or scratches or anything, but I'll probably have it checked anyway. One thing I did notice was the hinge pins were not tight. Meaning I didn't have to use any torque to get them to turn. That isn't normal right? Also, still haven't checked the valves yet. I'll get there!
Anyway, thanks guys. All the advice and concern are very much appreciated!

Oh, for bomar76, the drive was hanging by the trim cylinders. When we got the boat on the trailer and out of the water the drive just drug up the ramp. Kind of a sick sight if you ask me. :)

If it were me I'd save that drive and have it mounted to hang on the wall in my office.

Pretty epic trophy, and no one was hurt (at least not physically)

I say this as solemnly as possible.....that damage is spectacular. I agree that you should mount that sucker and hang is somewhere for posterity's sake.

Have to wonder if there was some sort of stress crack there from some earlier incident. If it did not feel like much of a hit, maybe it was not a hit? Maybe it just broke.

if the hinge pins were not tight, look very carefully at the bellhousing thread area for cracks.

How much you want for the old upper? :)

True.... It was for entertainment purposes only. Probably would work though. The pics were of his friends boat. Yeah that's the ticket.

I already had a go around with insurance and they basically said that I was the sucker who chose liability so stop bugging us. :) I'll definitely go full coverage when I get the boat up and running again.

Hey JustJason, if you really want the upper drive pm me and I'll see what I can do to get it to you.

Also, anybody got any help for me concerning my shift cable?

Thanks everyone!

Maybe Jason can just come over and help with your shift cable, and then he can pick up the old upper for payment? :D

Actually I am mainly posting just to comment - WOW!

I've never seen anything like that.

I'm not sure what you are asking about the shift cable. It will screw off at the bellhousing. It is sometimes easier to cut it in half and then it is easier to screw out the remainder. That's if you are planning on installing a new one.

Thanks for the tip on the cable. I wasn't plannin on replacing it because I haven't had any probs with it, but might just do it while it's apart. Seems like everyone suggests replacing everything in sight while the drive is off. :)

I would if he was local, but IL to MA is a big of a commute for a shift cable job :)

Chubbybunny, I still am interested in the upper if you don't want to much for it. (plus shipping of course). Let me know how much you would want to ship it to zip code 01827. I would do this through private message, but it hasn't worked for a while (MODS ya need to get on that and get an IE fix for ie!!)

 HOLY CRAP!!! I bet the drive shaft's bent. Looks like some big chips out of the front of the skeg, sure it wasn't a rock? Inspect gimble/transom and bolt another drive on there. Maybe add a depth finder. Glad everyone is ok.

You CAN PM. Just go to the PM section and type in the name of the person you want to PM. Just the auto. link doesn't work. The PM system still does.
