Re: 1995 gamefisher

welcome to iboats.

It is a rebadged Force, made by Mercury.
Very old technology, most parts are available, but for how long?

You could get a Johnson, evinrude, or mercury, 9.9 or 15 hp for not much more.

If it runs well, go for it.

If it doesn't run well, or if they won't let you test it, DO NOT BUY IT !

Good luck.

i have found a mid 1980's evinrude 9.9 for 500 cranked up good and ran good in a bucket of water and i also found a johnson 9.5 he only wants 350 but does not know what year said he bought it from a little old lady after her husband passed i have not went to look at it yet im not sure if the evinrude is worth teh whole 500 or if i should just go with the johnson i want something thats reliable and you can find parts for pretty much

thanks zack

Get the model numbers of the johnson and evinrude, post back, can give you the year.

Mid 80's is worth more to me than a mid 70's or late 60's motor.
By the mid 80's, the ignitions were much better in my opinion.

Re: 1995 gamefisher

The Johnson 9.5 was probably one of the most reliable motors made, parts are easy to find. They were called the "pancake" or "flat top" motor because of the lid having a low profile which in a lot of cases is nice if you are going to fish over it, etc... If it is clean and runs good I would definitely go for the 9.5. Of course the 9.9 is a real nice motor to but your going to be spending more money on it. The Johnson 9.5's were made between the years of 1964 and 1973, in fact the 9.9 replaced it. They are both nice dependable motors and parts are easy to find, it just depends on what style you like more and how much you want to spent. You should do a compression check on any motor you are going to buy before you buy it and make sure you change the water pump impeller if age of it is uncertain, there cheap insurance and easy to change. Offer them less. good luck!

Re: 1995 gamefisher

im took out the 9.9 and it didnt push my boat like i wanted im looking at a johnson 25hp for 350 the tiller shaft is broken and i have found a 18 hp johnson for 150 the guy said it hasnt ran since last year and he thinks it just needs the carborator cleaned but i dont know how hard or expensive it is to change the tiller shaft or do a carb kit on a boat motor like these

Big difference if just the tiller itself is broken or if it is broken down on the steering arm where the tiller connects. If the steering arm is broken it will need to be replaced unless some one can do a magical welding job on it depending on the condition of it. Replacing the steering arm consists of pulling the motor plus the part is not that cheap and thats if you can find it.
The 18hp could even be a pressure tank type of motor. That is a good price on a 25hp motor if it is in good condition but then again, what year is it 50's, 60's, 70,s, 80's?
When asking questions on this site try to include the model numbers of the motors you are talking about, you will get better info on the age of the motor.
Watch out for the famous last words.....It ran great last year.......... What happened to the 9.5? What type and size of boat are you trying to power? take care

Re: 1995 gamefisher

the 9.9 didnt push my boat like i wanted so i figured the 9.5 wouldn't either it pushed it prob about 10mph and im wanting it to go up river and its got some strong currents i know the 9.5 would make it but it would be slower than i would llike is all but the guy with the 25hp johnson said it worked fine last month he said his son walked by it bumped it and the handle was out and it just broke the throttle part of it not the actual handle so the throttle part is the only thing and he has droped it down to $150 i'm putting it on a 16ft gheenee
