Question about tilt

Just bought my first boat (ROOIKE-LOL) When adjusting tilt i cringe to hear the hydroulics burry the motor into the transom or all way down, i feal like its hurting something. Its a alpha 1 gen 2 i think. Anyway should i try and keep it in between or is this ok? Also to a rookie boater when i put it in the water should i tilt it all way down and try and adjust it while riding based on the bow height? Any info would be great!!!

I don't believe you are doing any damage by running the trim all the way down. As a new boater, you should know that you NEVER start the motor with the outdrive all the way up in the trailer position, will destroy universal joint. Run the trim all the way down before starting. If in shallow water you can run it back up to make sure you clear the bottom, but never above the upper trim limit. Generally the boat will come up on plane faster when trimmed down, once on plane adjust for the best ride. There is no set place for the trim, it will depend on the number of people on board, speed, water conditions etc. Trimmed too low the boat will tend to "plow" through the water and trimmed too high it will tend to "porpoise", so you need to strike a balance. Best bet is to take it out and play with it to get a feel for the boat. Have fun.

How do i know where the trim limit is? Also i think there are sensor on side but the guy i bought it from never hooked them up wires are there though. Thanks for your help.

OK! That is not good. The trim limit switch is a small rotary switch located on the gimbal ring that disconnects the power from the "up" trim switch when it hits the maximum safe up trim. The "trailer" switch bypasses the limit switch and allows the outdrive to go up further for transporting the boat. You can live without the trim position sensor, but as a new boater you MUST have the trim limit switch working. What you need to do is check out what is working and what is not. I assume the boat is in the driveway, so. One: run the trim all the way down. Two: with the up trim switch (NOT the trailer switch) run the trim up till it stops. Three: Measure the distance center to center of the ends of the trim cylinder. It should be 21 3/4 inches give or take 1/4 inch. If that is correct you should be OK to run the boat, if not you need to adjust it or get it fixed. Last: Hit the trailer switch just to see how much higher the outdrive goes. Go to the "adults only" section and download Transom manual 4A. It will tell you all about this stuff. Good luck.

Thinking of getting a trim guage. But not sure how it works and what it uses to measure trim or where it hooks up. Are u familiar with installing them?

Installing the gauge is pretty easy, getting the wires threaded through the transom is another matter, not easy. The trim limit sensor is located on the port side of the gimbal ring, the position sensor is located on the starboard side of the gimbal ring. They are both round plastic switch housings. The sensor is a rheostat (variable resistance) sends a (voltage) signal to the trim gauge that tells you the trim position of the outdrive. You need to go to the adults only sticky of this forum, click on #9. Download service manual #6. Section 4 (transom minor) of that manual will tell you all about the trim limit and position sensors. Did you check to see if the trim limit works?

I have not checked them, just bought the boat last weekend and im tryin to get everything right before putting in water. I will check the manual, thank you again for all the help i really appreciate it!!!
