RC Cars/Trucks

I've been looking into getting back into RC Cars/Trucks. It's been 15 years since I was involved in it.

Back then, Team Associated (AE) was the brand we ran and all the stuff along with it. We ran electric only.

What brands seem to offer the most variety today?

It's been a few years for me. Last I knew it was AE, Losi, Traxxis. A friend of mine builds and buys old ones, new ones...custom built dual steering rock crawlers.:)

If you want to get into the truck scene then Traxxas is the way to go. They have a killer line of trucks from stadium style to monster truck. They have both 2wd and 4wd in nitro and electric. Hpi and Losi also have a smaller selection of trucks that are good quality also.

The car market is still dominated by Team associated.

That's what I've been seeing during my searches. Thanks.

I don't have a rock crawler, but I do have a nitro truck that's a lot of fun for running in the backyard. It's an older Kyosho. It's a blast but parts are a little pricey at times.

.15 nitro engine, 4WD with forward and reverse.

Fuel is around $12 a quart.

associated is still definitely one of the front runners. I have a B4 buggy and a TC4 road car. both elec.
now days many tracks have switched over to brushless motors. very nice systems. 2.4GHZ radios are almost the standard now days. no interference with freqs that way and no crystals to change.
The traxxas slash trucks are very bulletproof however if you're gonna race you'd want to go with SC10 instead. lighter faster more mods avail.
myself I prefer the regular stuff B4,T4 or assoc road cars.

Losi is still out there but we don't get many of them at our track. every now and then someone shows up with one.

it's like anything else though, if you're going to race it, go to your track and see what they have the most support for. doesn't matter what you run if you can't get parts for it when it breaks.
nitro has made advances but in all honesty it seems to be on the way out. elec is becoming so much more available, easier to run, and now days with lipo battery packs you can do longer runs and more of them. lipos can be charged multiple times per day.

The biggest changes since you were in it (I also was in it 15 years ago and got out of it but have recently returned to RC, in fact I flew my plane today) are in the radio and electric technology. The invention of the brushless motor and ESC has revolutionized RC cars. Traxxas offers an RC buggy like the RC-10 or Losi JRX-pro SE (my last Losi buggy) that is stock out of the box 70mph on the radar gun. Like I said....technology has grown by leaps and bounds.

They now have these new 2.4ghz radios with bind and drive technology where gone are the days where you had to worry about someone else on your frequency. Once you bind a vehicle (or plane) to a radio, it's bound for good and will ONLY respond to your radio. So no need to worry about it! And the antennas are only a few inches long, not 3-4 feet like the old 72-75mhz technology.

I would definitely not agree with TA dominating the RC car market. Traxxas, IMHO, dominates. They offer so much variety with really good quality cars. The only reason that some might say TA has pulled ahead of Losi is that Losi is no longer carried by the biggest RC supplier, Tower Hobbies. But they are still definitely in the running.

I'm looking to sell an e-maxx. It's from before they widened them a couple years ago, but has the a-arms to widen it. I installed the fronts and lost interest to do the rears.

For wheel drive, four wheel independent suspension, has a set (1 axle worth) of aftermarket metal axles, and dual motors.

I can get pics for you if interested, and set up an ebay auction. I have on my to do list to put it on C-list today ironically.

PM me as this thread will likely be lost, never to be seen again by me.
