Alright, everyone I talk to says I need a tach to figure things out like prop pitch and want to order one tommorow but cannot find which one will work with my 1974 Evinrude Lark 50HP.My manual says it has a magneto breakerless capacitor discharge ignition..I looked here on Iboats and all I could find are ones for alternators and some sold here just say nothing about what they fit as far as systems...Thanks and please let me know.Maybe teleflex still makes one for the more vintage motors...

Re: Need a Tach

Any 12 pole tach with a '6P' setting on the back designed for outboards should be fine.

I have been looking again and they all say for alternator style and I have a the magneto sytem. Are you 100% sure as long as they say 12pole 6p they will work even if it says for alt style.I cannot order one that will not work when it gets here.I am not doubting you so much just have to be sure,LOL..Thanks

Re: Need a Tach

As I said in your other thread, you do not have a "magneto". OK, admittedly it is advertised as Mag CD, and technically it is powered by a magneto. In this usage, think of a "magneto" as being a "generator" that makes electricity for the CD Electronic Ignition System. That is a far cry from the old magneto ignition systems that you are confusing it with.

You need an alternator tach. The question I can't answer is how many poles or pulses for your motor. Small matter, for most of the tachs sold these days have a switch on the back for different number of poles/pulses.
