Re: wiring 1978 Sea Nymph
Unless you have a multi-tester (volt/ohm meter) you will be beating your head against the wall (or the helm). You need to figure out what's ok and what's not so why not invest 15 bucks or less on the test equipment and actually trouble shoot. Four switches don't all go bad at the same time. Chances are there is no power to them. Find out why.
Agreed 100,000%. I just went through mine and you can't really do it without a multimeter. You can get one rather cheap from anywhere, but you need to make sure you can test continuity and voltages on all the wiring first, then figure out what's bad and replace. My underdash wiring was wrapped up and zip tied into a rats nest spaghetti ball. Took me the better part of a weekend to go through it but I now have the peace of mind that what's there works and is done properly.
Also get a length of wire that will stretch from the battery to wherever you're working and put alligator clips on the ends, so you can have a good known ground to test what's good and what's bad. I found that the ground, Batt+ and ign wires going to my console were (in my mind) a little underpowered and corroded so I started there. The rest is just on-your-back testing.
Good luck!
