Hello all, on my mercruiser's 3.0 lower end in my Tahoe q4 I am trying to figure out if there is a possible leak. The over flow resiovour or you may call it the extra oil contiainer which sits on the top front right side of the engine....well when I bought the boat it was right in the middle of the Full line and the Add line. I've run the boat about 10 times this season and now the oil level line is a little below the Add line. So my question is, Does it sound like a leak? Or does the lower end discharge minimal amounts of oil to keep the water out when running? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Was it a brand new boat to you, used boat?

It could have just worked some air out of the system. I would add a little and watch it.

After changing out my lube I often have to top it off after the first good run of the boat in the water, and this is after pressure testing to be sure there is no leak.

Given that you have taken it out about ten times - did you notice the level going down gradually? Or was it in one trip?

If it was in the first trip, then maybe it was just burping out some trapped air. If it has gradually gone down, then I would say you have a leak.

Where is it leaking? How much to fix? Well, that depends upon where it is leaking huh? ;)

Take the outdrive off and see if you have oil in the bellows area. Then you can pressure test it and see where it is leaking.
