Hi guys,
i purchased a 88 bayliner with an omc i/o a few months ago. I started it up and it came on like a charm. Since then i have done some cleaning to it and replaced the carpet. Couple a days ago i tried to start it again hoping to take it out but it wouldn't start anymore. I thought it was the battery but since have bought a new one. Tried it but nothing. Any ideas on what could be wrong???

I don't think 88 capri has a kill switch,,,
check the engine block ground
test voltage at the starter solenoid, while turning the ignition key.

Re: 88 bayliner capri omc

U would need a multi meter or a cheap auto tester.
make sure the tester is well grounded/
battery SW on/
test the thick red cable on the starter, U should get 12V+/
test the small wire on the solenoid, should get 12V+ if the ignition key is in start position.
It could also be the NSS, try to wiggle your shift lever,,,
Good luck:)

Does anything else work, such as lights, bilge blower, etc? If not, the breaker is tripped. Look on your dash.

Nothing works. Where is the breaker located and how does it looks like? Is it by the fuses under the dash board?

No, it's not under the dash. I told u it should be on the dashboard. I don't have a pic of your setup in front of me so you'll have to find it yourself. If I were you I would take some time & learn the ins & outs of your boat such as where the breakers are located. Also, you may have a 50 amp fuse blown. If that fuse has blown, you won't have power to anything. It's in the engine compartment, probably on the starboard engine side. Look for it. Some day, you'll need to know these things if your out on the water & something happens.

There are 2 50 amp inline fuses. Should be on the engine in the harness near where the shift cable connects on the bracket that goes to the lower shift cable.
These will be black rubber boots with a metal clip over them that holds them together. They really don't look like fuse holders but the fuses are in there.

No sweat. I'm glad u posted back. I didn't know Autozone carried those fuses. They didn't last time I needed one.
