Motor turns but will not start

I have a 2001 Seadoo Utopia with a 210 hp mercury engine. My old battery went dead and when I went to hook up the new battery I accidentally did backwards wiring and tried to start. When I realized what I did I switched wiring and tried to start. Engine turns and makes one attempt to start and then dies, same result each try. I am thinking the coils or solenoid were damaged. I am going to try and replace these, is there anything else that could have been damaged? Any advice on what to do next?

I would check for a blown fuse first before I spend$$$,,,
