Hey guys, I started a restoration thread in another section and it was suggested to start a seperate thread for motor questions in here.

I am trying to rebuild a 1978 Merc 200 (20hp) and i am currently on the Carburetor trying to figure out what to do with this unit. I was going to rebuild it, but I am finding several rebuild kits as a lot of different prices listed for this motor so I wanted to see what you guys think.

The only visual item just looking over the carb is the Venturi broke off inside of the carb. I found that peice digging over exploded diagrams of the carb online finally. My main question is what rebuild kit should I get? I have found items listed as rebuild kits for that carb starting at $25 and going to $70. Some/most don't have pictures so you don't know the difference. I will list some below:

Any ideas would be great.

$69

$25

Also found this one, but no pictures:

Here is the full exploded view of that carburetor.

Sorry if posting companies that don't pay for ad space is against the rules, just listing examples for better information.

Re: 1978 Merc 200 Carb help

The first two are likely just rebuild kits. Boats.net deals in factory Merc parts and that price is for a carb repair kit. Whenever I'm rebuilding for the first time I use the repair kits. Maybe it's anal but it's the way I like to go.

I look at it like this. I order a gasket kit and rebuild the carb. I install it and the needle seat leaks. I take the carb off, take it apart, order a needle and seat, pay the shipping and suprise... it ends up being just as expensive as the repair kit.

The choice is yours. Most of the time you can get away with the minimal.

That was exactly my thoughts on it. I just wanted to make sure I didn't order something that was wrong. I will get the Boats.net one since they also have the other parts I need in stock at the moment.

Thanks.
