Re: overheating

Ayuh,.... Then follow the water,.... Water In, Water out....
Pull the In hose from the T-Stat housing,+ test the flow as stated in the manuals....

Manuals are in the Adults Only section,... Stop on by,....

Re: overheating

No.
Someone took it out in a failed (and foolish) effort to correct an existing overheating problem in that engine.

Seriously doubt it.

An old wive's tale, repeated by those with zero knowledge of thermodynamics, is that removing an thermostat will cause an engine to overheat due to "The water racing through the engine so fast it doesn't have time to cool it"

That is utter BS.

If your engine overheats with out a thermostat, it will with one.

So, I'm not the only one to have been told that.

Re: overheating

One more thing to check: Engine Timing!

One of THE most common causes of overheating is a blocked exhaust elbow... That's the second place I'd be checking (first would be the impeller).

Chris.........

I read that on here from time to time and just shake my head in dismay.

It's right up there with putting clothes pins on your fuel line to stop vapor lock..

How about 'using large fuel lines makes the fuel pump work harder'.... Just about wet myself laughing when I read that one.

Re: overheating

being stated that it takes 15 min to overheat tells me its not the impeller. it would overheat rapidly if thats the case . check exhaust log pull the hose that connects and start the engine with water supply of course, there should be a steady stream of water after the t-stat opens. if there is, the problem is a blockage in the log and replacement is needed if you have a cracked block or blown head gasket these symptoms could occur as well. a compression check will tell. good luck!!
