Hi Forum, Im in the middle of a repower and today was the day to pull the outdrive, disconnect water intake, shift cable assy.alt. etc. to pull the motor everything is moving along well dispite a few small hang ups,
So we have everything 90% ready to go except for 1 of the 2 thru bolts at the bell housing assy. wont Budge I used PB Blaster to try and soak thru the rust to get it loosened(great Stuff) but it still wont budge, I broke a 3/4 nut while torqued with the cheater bar:rolleyes: So the plan is to let it sit overnight in PB Blaster buy a hardened 3/4 nut 1/2 inch drive and try again.
Any suggestions would be helpful.;)
Also,
I pulled the risers to help make access to that bolt a tad easier, and found that the risers to the manifolds gaskets had a blockoff plate beetween them:eek: this cant be right can it ?? I included a couple of pix to help clarify what I have found.
Any insight would be fantastic, and YES I will also look up in the adult section for answers as well.
Thanks in advance.
Kevin

Re: Barr exhaust manifold help?

they are used depending on what cooling system you have. some systems have a block off plate some have one with a restrictor gasket some have full flow gaskets. jsut depends on what kind of cooling system like if it has cool manifolds, warm manifolds etc

Re: Barr exhaust manifold help?

I have a raw water cooling system and I want that NEW:) motor to have as much cool water running thru it as possible as seeing that the Mercs are Notorius for overheating;)
Now can Ditch the restrictor plates and get full flow thru the system? or would that prohibit me from reaching the proper operating temps needed for the motor to be efficient?
Heres a pic of the set up

no stay with the block off plate and put in new gaskets. its like that for a reason. changing it may make it over heat or may allow water to flow into the engine.

overheating is caused by lack of maintence if you look after your engine and change your impeller yearly you will be good.

if this outfit is used in salt water flush engine after every use.

Re: Barr exhaust manifold help?

understood, I have just purchsed this vessel in its current condition, about a month ago this is my 5th boat so im not new to boating. It was a deal that I couldnt turn down, but I have to repower:mad:
Cool I will leave the block off plates in place then. I will throw up pix when we hoist out the old motor and begin the process of swithing everything over to the new long block.
Thanks for your input boat127, I will let the block off plate ride:D
