Well I have to drive about 25mi to get to where I am doing my refit project and every time I take the drive I pass a house with a late 80's yellow WellCraft in the driveway. Well two weeks ago I noticed a large boom over it with the engine hanging from it and it peaked my interest. So this after noon I decided that when I was done working on my project I was going to stop by and pick this guys brain if he was out there.

Well as I was coming up on the house I noticed he was out working in his boat and I passed it by, I was started thinking of how this guy would think I was crazy for just popin my head in on a complete stranger and got nervous and just kept going:eek:. Well I got a mile down the road and figured I was being stupid and turned around drove back to the house and pulled up front. I jumped out of the truck walked up to the boat and introduced my self. I explained to the guy I was working on a boat my self and had a few questions for him because i noticed he had just dropped a motor in his boat.

Well the guy turned out to be a super stand up gent and we ended up shooten the **** for over an hour! Most of the time I was drooling over the gleaming 454 protruding from the engine compartment that had a twin set of holly double pump carbs capping it off!:D But he also gave me some really good info on lining up my drive and shared some great stories!

Why cant more people be as cool as boaters are? I mean under any other circumstances just stopping at a complete strangers house would get a negative reaction but if its a boater and your there to talk boats, its like two olds friends getting to know one another again!

I dunno...you had a common interest. I think 2 people will talk for hours about something they both enjoy.

Its good to know that there still are places where you can walk up to somebodys property without getting harrassed. Several years ago when I had my boat in the driveway, many times boating enthusists would stop. Rather it would be picking my mind on their project or just to see what I was doing. I even had a few offers on wanting to know if they could buy my boat when I was done. I even took time out to help a fellow iboater by changing his bellows, checking his gimbal, and u joints. Knowing he wasn't healthy like myself, I didn't have the heart to charge him anything. He still has some other issues and I plan to help him get those taken care of in the near future.

I was just thinking the same thing yesterday as I was driving home from checking out the marina where I have rented a slip. While we were wandering around looking the place over there was another couple who had just launched their boat and were getting things in order so of course we stopped for a chat. From "Nice boat." the conversation turned to "Where are you from?" and went on from there. Very enjoyable chat, nice people.

Working on a boat can be like a magnet in your driveway.

It works on iboats too. If you see another user from your area, send 'em an PM and say hey I wanna come check out your boat. Guaranteed you'll have a new friend. Boaters are great.

Just moved our boat from the side of the garage onto the driveway about an hour ago. Had a few conversations with some people walking by that stopped and struck up some boating talk.:)
It's a magnet.

It may be a magnet, but once I'm on the water, it is more like a narcotic.
