Installing "O" Rings in fuel connector

I have a 1953-54 Evinrude 15hp motor and I am trying to replace the o rings inside the fuel connector. Does anyone have any idea how to get to the O Rings? I tried taking off the air and gas lines and punching the brass rings out that way, but they are pretty tight. I was told that was the way to get them out. Is this correct? If so what do I use to remove them? If not, how?

You can hook, snag, or dig the o-rings out. Or, I make a fixture for removing the brass bushings to replace the o-rings. Send me a PM if interested.

Not sure I want to dig out the "o"rings so I would like to remove the brass rings first. What kind of fixture are talking about? You talking about just hooking on the inside of the brass rings and yanking them out?

FR's tool is obviously the way to go. I have used a dental-pick and heated the tip with a candle to burn through the old o-rings to fragment them for easier pickings. REMOVE the coupler from the fuel hose and blow dry and remove all fuel sources in your work area before lighting the candle!

That said, FR's tool is a MUCH better method. He makes a jig to hold the coupler, leaving the brass free to fall through when punching through the hose nipples. I saw a photo, and it's brilliant!

kbait,
Can I get that picture you are talking about? With parts to some of these motors being rare and expensive I am very hesitant to just "try" things that seem out of the ordinary. I don't mind picking out the old rings, but it just looks like getting the new ones back in would be tough. The picture would be great or any other advice.
Thanks!

I always used a crochet hook to remove them without tearing them up.
