1969 85hp help!!

Alright, i have a 69 Evinrude 85hp model 85993m

There are a couple things i need help with.

First off, the motor starts great, but as soon as it on, it is in forward gear, no neutral or reverse. So after alot of reading, i think its the solenoids, how the heck do i find out what to order, any direction on what i need would be great.

secondly, i have been trying to get the lower unit off, i removed 4 bolts, and thought it would come off, it didnt, how the heck do i get that thing off, because i believe that is where the solenoids i need to replace are.

i also need a steering rod, any help on where to order one from would be awsome

Bolt(s) under trim tab. Also disconnect the shift wires at th powerhead.

im not really sure what the powerhead is. this is the first outboard motor ive ever seen with the cover off, lol

Your gonna need a factory manual.

ok after more research i found what wires to disconnect

any help on any thing else

Powerhead is the complete unit that's under the hood.
