I have a 1998 90 EL (non-Ficht) that ran very well on Splitfire SF409B plugs. Just learned they went out of business. I did not like the Champions that came in the motor new. Seemed to misfire (2-cycle diesel I've heard it called) at low rpm. Much less with the Splitfires. I'm willing to pay more for better performance. Anyone have any suggestions?

Re: 90 EL Spark Plugs

The current listed plug for your engine is a Champion QL78YC.

You could use one of the plugs that are supposed to cross to the splitfire plug, but that is not what is listed as currently recommended for your motor.

Re: 90 EL Spark Plugs

Johnson\Evinrude OMC products tend not to run well on NGK spark plugs they require suppressor plugs for the ignition to work properley.
Champion own the patten for suppressor plugs(may have expired).
Best bet stick with Champion.

It could be the ghost oe OLE from the ww2 days Just a thought and only my opinion.
