Re: Alternator

Yes, if it's not alreday installed. Look for a 3 or 4 wire rectifier on the starboard side of the powerhead...... rectangular base, approx 1" round tower also about 1" tall, it would have 2 plain yellow wires, 1 red, and possibly 1 yellow/blue wire (One of the plain yellow wires may be yellow/gray).

If a rectifier is present, the alternator is installed.

Re: Alternator

The model number indicates that is should already be fitted with an AC lighting coil.

There is probably a three pin socket on the motor cover somewhere. That is the AC output.

If that is so then all you need is the AC lighting -battery charging kit which plugs into that socket. (part number 0582105) its a bit over $70 in the USA! Or you could lash something up using one of the 4 wire rectifiers which should mount on the engine and connect to the stator coil with the aid of a connector strip

If you are a dab hand with electronics you can make up a six diode rectifier according to the diagram below using suitably rated diodes. (diagram also shows how AC lighting is connected)

If it does not in fact have an AC lighting coil already fitted you will need the complete battery charging kit which also includes the stator coil. It is part number 0174037 and costs over $90 in the USA.

Take a look at the OB accessories listed on the dropdown list in the parts catalog at http://shop2.evinrude.com/ext/index.aspx?s1=bf6ad09c53cead335fcfd8a6471c0f7f

Re: Alternator

Yes that 's an '84 35 hp model.

It's Belgium made I think you will find . Quite often there are Belgium made versions that are not in the BRP parts catalog. Presumably models sold in Europe but not N. America

BA in the model number should indicate AC lighting and rope start,

If there is no socket there it seems likely that there is no AC lighting coil
but have look round for the three yellow wires that would come from it if it were there, One plain yellow , one with a grey marker and one with a blue marker. they might just come out to a terminal strip, you may also find there is a rectifier connected up as well. If there is then the red wire is the positive and the negative is ground

No coil means you will have to go the whole hog and fit that as well as a rectifier but if there is a coil all you need is the rectifier. If there a rectifier all you need is a cable to connect to the battery

Open the drop down list on that parts catalogue page. Select OB Accessories, then 1984 and then electrical and you'll be able to look at the details of the two alternatives I mentioned.
