I have a fuel problem with my 1973 7.5 hp carb. Its starts up 1 pull idles fine and cuts out at half throttle wants to stall. If you pull the choke half way out it runs fine and will run wide open. I cleaned rebuilt carb numerous times , set float, replaced fuel pump diaphram and all gaskets along with new needle valve. good prime and vented. Anyone have an idea?

Re: fuel problem

Not saying I'm an expert, but starting to sound more like an electrical problem. Coil, plugs, wires, etc. There are plenty on here that know more than me, but that's my 2 cents based on your description. Doesn't sound like there is any more you can do to the fuel side, and the old saying is: when you've eliminated the possible, what's left, however improbable, must be the answer.

I replaced coils and plugs not long ago. I still think its something with fuel because of the choke helping it run better. thanks for reply though

Re: fuel problem

Ahhhh, missed that on my first read through. Sorry. There was a guy on here not long ago that had a propblem with the check valve in his fuel line causing similar symptoms. Not saying that is it, just throwing things out there for you. I'm sure you've tried the old squeeze the bulb trick when it does this, instead of pulling the choke? I know you replaced the fuel pump diaphram, but that is the check for fuel pump probs.

Re: fuel problem

I actually just replaced the fuel pump and diaphram gaskets this morning and no change. Also pressing the bulb does not help it at all just choking it does.

Re: fuel problem

Sounds like you still have some dirt in the progression holes of the carb, or the idle mixture screw needs to come out 1/8 to 1/4 turn...

Re: fuel problem

I made some adjustments with the mixture screw but didn't help. I guess I'll pull carb off again and check it.
