Re: Honda 9.9 year model?
Hi there teddyboy and welcome,
When you say "It has a power pack out" are we saying it is missing all together?
I have the same identical motor and I have yet been able to figure out the year on it but I can tell ya its around 1990 to 1997. So you have no spark at the plugs.
check all your stop switches make sure they are not faulty.
The CDI pack if you wiggel it in direction as you are cranking the engine(if electric start) do you see partial spark? take plugs out of motor and ground of course.
plug gap is .024 to .028
The only thing the manual says about the CDI is that you use process of elimination and must test the following components and if all check ok then its your CDI pack:
Ignition coil - primary and secondary test - wire leads ?
Ignition charge coil test - under your fly wheel
rectifier test- but not really a must
stop circuit test
stop switch test
pulsator magnet test
check continuity of all harness leading from your CDI pack.
ur gonna need the manual for these tests or shoot me an email and I can scan and send you what you need, but over all a solid motor but known for some minor ignition issues.
If all above OHM tests check ok according to specs then swap out the CDI, its 118 bucks.
The CDI has 2 female recepticles that lead into it one is a 2 prong plug and the other is a 4 prong.
I have intermittent spark on mine and I am able to wiggel the CDI pack and I am able to kill the engine and start it at any time.
The CDI for pre 1997 are pretty much the same for the 9.9 and the 15
hp models.
