i want to plug the drain hole in my boat. i rebuilt my boat a couple years ago. new stringers, deck and transom. i used sea cast for the transom. when i did that i put the brass tube in the hole and poured the seacast in. i now want to take the brass tube out and plug the hole and use a bildge pump. how would i go about pluggging the hole. i dont have any seacast left. would using a wood work.

the reason i want to do this is because im thinking about getting a slip for my boat and i dont want to worry about the plug leaking if water gets into the boat.

You could apply 3M 5200 sealant/adhesive on the plug threads then screw it in. It won't leak and is an easy fix.

I would plug it with a drain hole plug :) maybe i nice new one. Bilge pumps will never get all of the water out.

I would not recommend plugging the drain hole with anything except a drain plug. It won't leak.

A nice new big bildge pump and a float switch is a better idea!! :)

Your next project will be how to remove the plug that was permanently installed with 5200....good luck with that one.

Two thoughts. The first one was mentioned already...the second, remove the brass tube and install a garboard style screw in plug in its place. The seacast isn't going to rot, and you can use 4200 to seal the garboard drain ( not the plug...well, you could if you wanted to ) when you install it. Get a Stainless garboard drain though.
