I have had this boat/engine for 4 yrs and have put 600+ hrs on it. Toward the end of last season, I was getting some sputtering at idle. I tuned this up to start the season. Cold starts are rough. Warm starts are smooth. Whether at temp or below, I have the same problem. The engine coughs, sputters, and stalls when getting below 1000 RPM; otherwise it purrs nicely. New plugs, wires, rotor and distrib. cap. Carb cleaner sprayed on and into carb. Gas from last season with Stabil. No new gas. Any thoughts?

Carb spray does very little sprayed on the outside or even down the throat of a carb. You probably need to take it off and take it apart and do a though cleaning with carb dip and compressed air and rebuild.

Ayuh,... Cleaning the Outside of the carb does little to Nothing...
Tear it down, Clean it,+ Rebuild it... The idle passages are Clogged...

just wanted to follow up on this. it was not the carb. it was a mixup of plug wires. fixed the wires and it ran like a gem/ goes to show it can be 'just about anything' but thanks for the help nonetheless
