Engine fires right up and runs smooth for about 15 seconds everytime I crank it. Then I have to throttle it to keep it from dying. Adusted the one (only has one) idle mixture screw on the side (base) of carb everywhere from the 1 1/4 turns out as manual says to all other points, no difference. Adjusted the idle screw on the linkage. I cannot get thie thing to idle. Been tuned, points plugs etc, that's all good. Fresh fuel, cleaned fiter. Do I need to just have this thing rebuilt or what?

Thanks for all your input.

I believe so. A new one was recently installed. After keeping it running for a while I did notice it was open.

It's really not that hard to rebuild that carb. You could just try taking it apart and cleaning it but you'll probably need gaskets anyway since they probably won't survive taking it apart. The rebuild kit is about 68 bucks and the float another 20. No idea what it costs to have it done since I always do em myself.

If you can get the top off you may find debris you can clean out of the float bowl, but my guess is there is going to be stuff deeper down that needs to come out making a rebuild your only real choice. It's an 89 so it probably needs it. Then after you are done put a fuel water separating filter between the tank and fuel pump, it's pretty much a requirement.
