3.0 omc stalls when in gear

I have a 1986 harris inboard/outboard 3.0 omc v-6 i think its just a fuel pump issue but what its doing is as soon as i put it in gear its stalling it will run in nuetral when i rev it but when its in gear it stalls. When i did get it to go it just sputtered and would not pick up speed. any ideas if maybe im starting on the right track with a fuel pump

Fuel pump is the last thing to check. Is there water in the gas? How old is the gas? Has it been tuned up this year? Carb need rebuilt? (strong possibility) Plenty of troubleshoothing threads in this forum to help. Randomly throwing parts at it will rarely fix it, but will lighten your wallet in a hurry!

new gas and was tuned this year. The carb sounds like it would b the problem and also it ran fine 4 days ago and i brought it out yesterday and thats what it was doin i dont know if that will help.
