Hello

Last year I purchased an older 12? aluminum cartopper. The brand is Sterling. I am now looking for a gas motor for it but the plate that gives the HP rating is gone. Is there a central location (boat website) that I can get this information?

Thanks
Don

Re: HP Rating

Not sure how old it is, but iboats has a 12 foot fisherman as having a max hp rating as 10hp. If it's a v-bottom, this is typical in 12 foot aluminums. If it's a flatbottom jon, it varies.

Here's the link from iboats:

Edit: sorry scratch this post. I just read the description and the 12 foot fisherman is a fiberglass boat.

Re: HP Rating

I think 12 HP may be pushing it a bit on a 12'er.

The last 12' I owned, Alumacraft, was 8 HP max. V-bottom.

My neighbors 12' Mirrocraft is rated for 8 also.

Re: HP Rating

Measure the width of that boat at its widest point.

If it's 48", the max will probably be 7.5 or 8 hp. If it's 54" or wider, then probably 10 hp.

That seems to be typical of 12' tinnies.
