My problem consists of my outboard cutting off while im running..

The speed varies when the motor cuts off.. I can be going 15 or 50 but the motor will cut off a some point and its always randomly..

I can run sometimes for a while before it does it but sometimes it happens right when i head out..

But the motor will crank right back up..

No alarms for overheating sound..

Tough to call.. I would guess water in the fuel.

had similar problem with my 150EFI. found that filter on fuel pump in VST required cleaning after which, no problems. You also need to replace the O ring, as it stretches and the old O ring won't go back on and seal.

Re: Mercury 150 EFI cutting off randomly

sounds like a simple fix, but definitely something to look at... I had this similar problem with my 1976 Merc 1500... My fix was a loose connection at the terminal block..... Check that they are tight and the vibration didn't loosen them just a bit.... Under Power, it breaks connection because it's loose and rattling.... sitting still, no vibration, good connection! Hope this helps!

Water in the fuel has been ruled out..

Re: Mercury 150 EFI cutting off randomly

check the fuel tank for items that could possiblely be drifting in the bottom of the fuel tank. As the fuel is drawn up through the intake pipe an object may block the pipe at the bottom of the tank, the motor would then use the fuel in the fuel line and then cut out, the object would then drop off and you would be able to start the motor and again the object would be sucked up blocking the pipe. you would again be able the run for awhile using the fuel in the line before stopping again.
