I have a 1989 Regal Valanti 225 and am having steering problems, the boat will not turn right, took it to the shop and they quoted me $1700 to repair, I askeda friend and he said we probably need to replace the steering cable. I do not know what kind of cable to buy nor the length, I would appreciate some help here as I am a neophyte.

Re: Steering Problems

I had the same problem on my bowrider. Look in the engine compartment at the back of the engine and around the blower tubes. There should be a hydraulic tube that moves when you turn the boat left and right. That tube connects to two parts with two big bolts. Occasionally one of those bolts may loosen up and not allow the part to move, which is what is moving the outboard. You'll have to turn the steering wheel to get the bolt hole lined up and then tighten the bolt.

Hope this helped, if that was indeed the problem.

as a follow-up, i take that it won't turn right to mean you turn the wheel right, the wheel moves freely, but the outboard will move to center from left but not go past center. That was the case with mine
