Can a 1982 omc stringer selectrim be adjusted manually?

Hey everyone, hows it going? I just bought a 1982 4 cylinder OMC with selectrim. The selectrim is not working. (just clicks) can i adjust this manually for now someway until funds become available to buy a new motor?

you sure its the motor? They normally don't click. Usually quiet. Sometimes hum. rarely click.
