Hello, all

I Have 1964 Evinrude 28hp, 2 cyl, model#28402M, S/N E02487.

I do not know exactly what to go about setting the timing on it.

I have service manal, but not quite clear about it. Any aditional info
Will be appreciated.

Re: Timing question?

The timing is fixed on that model via the flywheel key which keeps the flywheel and its magnets aligned with the flywheel key slot on the crankshaft taper. The timing cannot be changed.

The engine is in perfect time UNLESS that flywheel key is sheared, inwhich case the engine simply will not run.

The flywheel nut must be torqued to 105 foot pounds, otherwise the flywheel key will surely shear!
