I've got a single shift/throttle lever. I'm going through the procedures to adjust the shift cable (engine to drive unit) and the remote shift cable (throttle lever to engine) and I'm stumped.
I pushed in the shift cable while my son rotated the prop CCW. It stopped, I measured 6" from hole to hole per the manual. Then I put the throttle lever in WOT position and installed the remote cable in the bracket and backed off 4 turns. The rest of the procedure regards the microswitch thingy (shift interrupter?).
The problem I'm having is that the shift works perfectly going forward, i.e., it shifts into forward gear at the detent on the throttle lever AND before the throttle cable begins opening up carb, but it does not shift into reverse gear even in reverse WOT.
However, I can remove the shift cable from the bracket and pull it a little further and make it shift into reverse.
Also, I had that laid-off mechanic I posted about recently (the one who forgot to install the water tube in the bell housing on my neighbor's boat) replace the propeller shaft seals. Could he have messed up the shifting mechanism whereby an extra long reverse "throw" is required to engage reverse?
Thanks
