What did the cup and the plate in the water-pump look like when you replaced the impellor? Even tiny scratches will keep it from pumping properly.

remove impeller and grease both plate and cup generously , seem to have made a big difference lots of water in telltale and motor stays cool. see how long that last . Thanks for clues :)

Not long. Your grease (axle perhaps) filled in low spots and scratches in the cup and created better sealing results..........Tom

Well took her out on the lake for two hours, still good , I'm going to run her like that while looking for parts real difficult to find parts other than seals bearings and impeller.Have other issues with gear shift , only have forward no neutral & no reverse on 1961 merc 200 any ideas before I get over my head .
Got her fixed ,all in the spring, it needs to preloaded with one just catching the rear pawl then the other on the forward pawl.
