Hey, I just found this site and it looks great!

I just purchased a 1996 Crestliner Phantom and was wondering if any of the Crestliner owners can point me to any useful sites they have found concerning Crestliners.

I do not have an owners manual, and if I could find one of those, it would be great.

Thanks!

Re: Newbie Boat Owner

Ok.....

I'll add a question and maybe I'll get a post or two.

This boat hasn't been in the water in a year or two.

Does anyone have any good advice as far as what I should put in the fuel?

How about for the engine? I had a friend tell me I should get some chemical to "fog" the inside of it with.

Any advice would be useful.

If the engine hasn't run in a couple of years I'd have it gone through by a mechanic unless you are qualified to do it yourself. You'll need to check the compression if you haven't already. Also, the impeller is likely dry and brittle and needs to be replaced. There are fuel treatments available that are supposed to rehab old fuel, but I don't have any experience with fuel that old. Engines are typically fogged prior to long term storage, usually for the winter, in order to prevent moisture buildup in the carb(s) and cylinder walls, so there's no need to do that now unless it's getting cold where you are and you don't intend to run it for a while. You'll get lots of other advice soon, but this should keep you busy in the interim. You should also take a look at the link below and just do some poking around in the boards. You may find that many of your questions have already been answered in older posts. Finally, give some more detail on your rig; motor brand, size, age, condition, etc. Do the same for the rest of the rig. This will give responders a place to start. Good luck and welcome to iboats.:) Oh yeah. Where do you hail from?

Re: Newbie Boat Owner

Hey thanks for the info!

It's a 1996 Crestliner Phantom 1960 with a Merc 125.

Also, on the boat is a 4 stroke kicker.

And, I'm from the great state of SD.

I am not sure if it was "fogged" or not. It was my father-in-law's boat and well, he's now in a nursing home and is not capable of answering questions about it.

Sounds like a dandy. Throw up some pics when you get a chance. Since you're in one of those places where it actually gets cold in the winter I would definitely pay someone to go over the motor with me. Bonus points if he/she will narrate and let you watch. It will be worth every penny. Also, you'll know if it was fogged before being put away the last time because it will smoke like crazy when you fire it up. This is normal and should subside after it runs for a little while. Has the boat been garage/shed kept?
