1982 Merc 2-stroke How to clean gunk off pistons???

I was told by mechanic everything on motor is fine except theres buildup on the pistons and rings. The boat dies when put in gear..it will run if you put it in gear quickly (sometimes). What do I use to clean the pistons and rings?? How do I do it also??

Get a can of Sea Foam. You can lay the motor down, cylinders up, and pour some into the cylinders to soak. Make sure the pistons are both in mid stroke so the Sea Foam stays in the cylinder. After soaking for a couple days drain it out and pull it over to clear the cylinders. Mix Sea Foam in your fuel per the can instructions and run it through a full tank. This should help clean it up.

BTW, did you get a compression check done? Is the carb clean and fuel pump functioning properly?

There were lots of 1982 2 stroke Mercs, which one do you have?
Is this a new to you engine or have you had it a while?
What prompted you to take it to a mechanic?

Yes!! I did get compression check and the carbs gone through.
