FIRST POST! Great site.... I had a new impeller and the boat fully serviced August of 09 a month or two before we took it out for the season (live in GA). winterized my 05 Four Winns this past winter with antifreeze (the safe stuff). I only put 3 gallons in the intake hose(s) after draining all the water via the hoses and the two plugs at the base of each side of the engine. Today I put the boat in the water, started right up. After about a minute I heard a whining or squeeking noise. Sounded like a belt. I opened the back hatch and it was not the belt and slowly went away. Temp was fine. I let it run for several minutes, backed off the trailer, got about 100yards out and throttled up to 20-25mph. The noise came back and the temp guage rose fairly quickly. I shut it down at first beep and opened the hatch. A little (VERY little) smoke came from the back. I sat for 10-15 minutes troubleshooting visually while letting it cool and then turned it back on to slowly idle back to the boat ramp. The temp still rose fairly quickly idling. I noticed all the hoses seemed VERY HOT/EMPTY, and the impeller housing was blazing hot.

When I got home I checked the impeller (see attached pic). As you can see it was all twisted and jammed to one side. Is that common? At first I felt that told me me it WAS NOT turning.?.?.?.?

I felt|hope it was in fact only the impeller, going to give it another go tomorrow after adjusting the impeller and adding a little soap in hopes of it loosening it up a bit.
Any input if it does in fact look like the impeller?
If it not the impeller where do I start next?
I checked the lower bellow tonight and it seemed to be clear.

The impeller is supposed to look like that. Has the boat been run without overheating since you had the impeller changed?

Which hoses did you pour your antifreeze into?

no, first run of the season. We had it in the water after the service and ran it a few times in the fall. Hope it didn't crack the block or something. I had it indoors and drained all the water. Live in Ga so it doesn't get too cold.

Not sure if its possible or not but maybe the person who replaced the impeller put the hoses on backwards.

As you say, Common sense is not so common. A man told me if you don't know you just don't f-in know. I would hope it was not installed incorrectly, appears to be installed correctly. We ran it plenty after the service and the service was done by the four winns dealer we bought it from who has done all the maintenance. They have been GREAT in the past with servicing and if at all possible saving some money.

Have you run it on muffs since the service? Also, it is possible to pick up a plastic bag and you would never know it until it started overheating. Once you figure out what went wrong, you are going to need a new impeller because this one was run without water too long.

Just so we are clear here. It was run or was not run since the impeller? You said something about running fine in the fall but was that before the impeller was changed?

Ran the boat several times after the service and impeller replacement in the fall. Was not overheating at that time. Winterized it, put in June 4th for this years first run (lame), and it immediatly overheated.

What hoses did you take off when you winterized?
