Starter no longer made

Ok the local shop told me may starter is no long made. I have found one online and order it. My question is.... Is the only differance the teeth count between some of the starters. Mine is Mariner part# 50-86976 with 9 teeth. I can't give the ser# or mod# of the motor it self. The plate is unreadable.

I know, What I'm asking though, are there other starters out there that fit but take a different gear to make work i.e. come with a 10 tooth but will work if switched with the 9 tooth

Not sure where you live, but that starter can be checked and rebuilt at numerous places. Check around your area for such places.
