2002 Yahama V-Max 3.1Lt 225 on a Ranger 205

I was crusing at about 5000 rpm and the eng. stalled just as if I had turned off the key. I restarted the eng. and attempted to come on plane and it did it two more times. Then on the third try it worked good. No probs until the end of the day on the way to the ramp and it did it one more time.

I just bought the boat two months ago and I am at a loss. Any ideals of what I could check?

Cousinabe, thank you... I looked over the postings at the link you provided and it sounds like that may be the prob. I also had the power fadeing issue prior to the stalling.

Does anyone know of a good place to get a O2 sensor?

any yamaha dealer, other than myself, would be more than happy to sell you a 360 dollar sensor.
myself I would ask: how do you know yours is bad?
whats the output voltage using the tech bullitens to test. flame test is worthless dont even try it.
the other three bullitens work.
O2 sensor wont cause power fading or stalling but it can smoke a piston if the output voltage isnt checked and the sensor cleaned every 200 hours OR once per year just like the book says.

Re: Help needed w/ Yamaha 225 stalling

Rodbolt, thank you for your advice! I have been reviewing several threads concerning Yamaha eng. stalls and I have decided that this is one time I will let my dealer find the prob... it is over my head for now. I could twist a wreach with the best of them on my old OMC 175 but this newer stuff, I don't have a handle on yet.

I will be spending some of my time off during the next couple of months vol. some of my time as a mech. helper in my dealers shop to gain some exp. working with the newer engs.. Then maybe I will risk it on the next prob.

Thank you again for the help!

the OX66 system is incredibly simple.
only thing more simple is the precision blend control.
however it still kicks tech arse for some reason.
but it does require some test equipment and harness's that the average boat owner wont use twice in a lifetime.
my tech mate was almost 700 dollars, my bore scope almost 1000 dollars. my leakdown tester over 300 dollars, my winky blinky almost 80 and the list will go on and on.
price a stevens CD-77, I own 4.
getting ready to drop another 3400 on the new volvo software stuff this week.

Re: Help needed w/ Yamaha 225 stalling

Well... I put the boat in the shop and like other threads concerning intermittent probs. with stalls, every thing checks out good in the tank. Being in west texas it is hard to test under the conditions you had when the prob. happened because we are 120 miles from the nearest lake. The only thing they have not tested yet is the VST/filter in the VST. They are going to check it in the morning.

I'll let you know what they find.
