motor jumps up in reverse

i just had CMC PT-130 power trim put on my 25hp mercury 4 stroke and when i now put in reverse the motor raises up out of the water. something not right.

Any tilt lock switch that is unlocked?

Look on the trim motor. There should be a switch or a turn knob to engage your lock.

Also make sure they bled it properly and that it is full of fluid. If mine leaks out even a tespoon or two, it won't completely lock.

thanks for replies. apparently there is a lock on the mercury itself that was in open position, i guess if you are in area with stumps,etc it allows prop to not get damaged. I'm an idiot and the guy that installed the power trim just flipped the switch to lock and it works fine. guess it would have helped if i had the mercury owners manual. i may have caught it. i ran the boat 3 times with the switch unlocked prior to having the trim installed and don't remember the motor coming up out of the water like that, in reverse.

If you engage reverse at low RPM's, it won't kick up. It's when you "gun it" that you will notice the kick up symptom. Pretty simple physics when you think about it. The motr is trying to "climb" out of the water.
