You wont see the slot for the half moon key from the top side of the impellor, it is under the bottom side. Try some heat and PB blaster. Some carefull use of a small chisel to spread apart the brass bushing part of the impellor will spread it apart, but be carefull not to damage the driveshaft.

Not sur what key is in that motor but if it is the nylon radiused type key it tightens in one direction and loosens in the other. Hold shaft still and rotate impeller from there. If all else fails get out the dremmel but be careful.

on many motors, that have not been regularly flushed, i have had to cut the remaining rubber off the impeller, then split the ring with a dremel tool with cutting drill.

I did this recently...before you get out the cutting tools, here's a less invasive procedure that might work for ya (if you didn't already think of it, which you may have.)

first, make sure you know that any marring or deformation of the driveshaft is a seriously bad thing. And stay away from the splines. Pad the driveshaft with something durable like many layers of shop rags or something and grip it with your vise grips. Never try to grip the splines.

Rock it back & forth, shouldn't take too much effort.

Did I say don't try to grip the splines? They make a special socket for that, don't try it with any other tool. Ever.
