Is the bypass coverplate essential to the conversion?I also plugged the pressure line at the base of the motor.Motor will run great for about 2 min then dies.If i continue to pump the in line primer bulb it wont die.I installed a Sierra 18-7350 fuel pump.Any suggestions?

That bypass cover is essential. The pump will not work if it doesn't have a pulse from the crankcase. That is why it is mounted to the bypass cover. If you had a three line pump instead of a two line pump, then you could probably tap your bypass cover and install a hose barb. Then you could use hose to connect the pump. I did this on a 1957 15hp. Works great. Tell us exactly how you have this hooked up.
