Hi, i am new here so im not sure if this is the right place to post this. Well i have bought a 14ft fiberglass boat 1962. Well the guy i bought it from had just restored the middle and back half of the boat with wood. The boat has 2 bench seats and in front of the first one at the front of the boat there is a small piece of floor maybe no wider than 21/2ft. and 3ft. long. Well that portion has gotten soft on me because i let the boat sit over the winter and rain and leaves sat in it. Keep in mind i know absolutely nothing about boats this is my first that i bought for $150 with trailer no motor. Well i want to get the boat running. I asked someone and they told me to just cut a piece of plywood the exact same shape and use contact cement glue and lay it over the soft floor. The whole front portion piece isnt soft just like two areas of no bigger than a softball. They told me the wood will do good then to paint it. The boat doesnt have water inside of it its light you can pick it by hand like nothing.

Will this work? I just want to get it going the cheapest way. I plan to buy a 35lb trolling motor and get the tags for it and take it out. If this will work cool. I know it's probably not the right way to restore the floor but if it works hey. Thanks to anyone who can give advice and to anyone who took time to read this.

God bless and have a good weekend.

Re: Restoring floor to 14ft fiberglass boat.

Welcome to iboats! I will move this to restoration.

Gluing wood to the old deck is a band-aide repair and IS NOT recommended at all.

Since this is going into the restoration section have a look around and you will see how to do it......

If it was me..... and I needed to go a fast band-aide route I would absolutely cut the bad section out and insert a new piece of wood coated with fiberglass in it's place.
