Hey guys

I got this motor and it needed new points. Had the a shop put new ones on
so it a little hard to start. When I get it on the river it hesitates. I looked when I stopped, it has gas leaking on top of the water. Can anyone help ??

Howdy, Standfast.

Welcome to iboats. :)

It takes a while to get familiar with the forums. We do have, for example, a Chrysler Forum. I will move this there.

Good luck. :)

Have you run the motor with the engine?s cover/cowling off to check for leaks? Otherwise, you might have a rich running engine or un-burned gas due to ignition problems that is making a mess. I have found both over the years with my 1970, 35 HP Chrysler. Such as:

1. I have found my fuel pump?s bowl loose and leaking.

2. In the cool weather a richer mixture seems to leave a exhaust/fuel/oil film on the water or in the barrel. I feel the film is less when the motor and weather is hot because it runs better in the heat.

I did take the hood off and run it. There wasn't any gas leaking at the motor. If it was getting to much gas would that cause it to hesitate. It idles fine, but does leave a Film of oil gas mix on the water. What are some thing I could do to figure out what the problem is. The compression is good and I put new spark plugs in it. ???
