I've been having some problems with over heating and I read about something called a lower unit impeller.

What does the impeller in the lower unit do?

Thanks

Re: impeller question

the Impellar is the water pump located in the lower half of the lower unit...does water stream out of the tell tale hole ..a stream of water located just below the cowl..looks like the motor is p-ing..if it is you may have a bad thermostat...I would suggest you getting a OEM repair manual for your engine..if you are mechanicly inclined it will save you a ton of money maintaining your motor...\

Get an OEM manual from e-bay, Ken Cook and several other places. In the meantime study what you can find at this link.
Plug in your motor make, HP and model. Then look at the diagrams and part lists. You will find the impeller and water pump assembly. Do not run your motor when it is overheating. You will fry it for good.
