Well I got this motor some time ago and it ran great last year. This year we had problems with a coil firing and now we cant get the motor to start up and idle. I personally think the stator plate has moved and thing that timing and everything is off. The reason I beleive this to be true is because we moved the plate a little but screwing it in/out and now it fires up and runs. But now I think it runs to hot. The motor block gets to hot to touch and steam rolls out of the back. Does anyone know how to set this plate where its supposed to be? If so would this plate make it so the engine would not idle well?

Ok, so I have the same 55 as you, replace the impeller. You are not getting enough water to cool it. I have had mine way out of time just messing with it, and it never got too hot to touch. Is it model 555HF? should say on the tag up front.

yea its a 555hf. on this motor i took the fuel pump apart and there is really not much to them, everything looks ok and i figured i dont need a new fuel pump but all the problems with idling i think it still might be a problem. should i replace or not replace?
