Hello-
Working with a 60ish 16' Red Fish. It had a 1958 35hp Gale on it... and I am installing an Evinrude 40hp (the Gale was locked up tight... someone then stole it from my driveway AND LEFT THE GOOD EVINRUDE AND ANOTHER SEA KING SITTING THERE - MAN!!)

I don't know if this matters but the shift boxes are different. The old plastic teeth guides are 4" and straight plastic guides in new box are 4.25"... so the box sucks up another .25" of cable. Other than that they should be the same length cables, correct? I just didn't want the box to effect the length (the motor hookup points are the same).

I did a measure and came up with 11 feet and added 4, so 15 feet. If I indeed need a 14' like the old cable, can I use a 15' with the new box??? This is my first box/cable replace.

The old Throttle Cable is 14' and the shift cable is 12', The throttle cable is MUCH thicker... All the cables I see for sale advertise as "throttle/shift" cable... PLUS I have that little wheel on only ONE cable.

Any idea which cables to order? And should the throttle cable be thicker?? I suppose I would like to have thicker cable (it has a heavy-duty spiraling... the throttle cable is whimpy)

A little unsure which cables to get.

Thanks All.

Re: Isn't the throttle cable thicker? Can I add a foot??

Does anyone know the best price for throttle and shift cables (with knowledgable staff)??? I have been buying my stuff from Sea-Way but he said you can't get these cables but they are EVERYWHERE (I gather they are the "old style").

Thanks Again!
