I'm having difficulty with this removal. Found all the bolts-5, taken off prop but I'm stuck there. What is the problem or next step? Maunal calls for A-B rod disconect. I thought this was the rod with the connector nut and lock nut but I don't seem to be able make a complete disconnect, why?
By the way , I'm doing an impeller kit replacement. Any help will be appreciated!!

This usually requires a few stiff swats from a soft mallet on the tailstock of the gearcase. As long as you are sure that all is released, keep in mind that you have alighnment pins that fit tightly to the exhaust housing and they do'nt wanna let go.Basically tap it until you see a crack at the seam then wiggle it loose from there. They do'nt always give up easily.

Tks. for the reply. I did'nt make my question clear. The lower unit drops down but not free from the middle unit. I assume something is not completely disconnected. Right? If so what is it? Is there another disconnect for the pinion shaft?

Did you shift this unit into reverse before disconnecting those A/B rods ?

No, I didn't shift into reverse. The shifter has been in neutral the entire time. I'm not sure what the A-B rods are. Are they the pinion shaft or the rod @ the front of the middle unit?
Does the motor need to be in reverse to complete this disconnect?
Tks. for your assistance

Well, they do'nt I suppose ,have to be, but it is as you are finding out it is much easier in reverse. So get back to square one too save some frustration on reassembly.Push the gearcase backup and make sure that shift shaft coupler lines up and tighten it back down. The upper shift shaft should have now shoved this into nuetral. With a bolt still in the gearcase shift from gear to gear with someone spinning the propshaft and not running to make sure you have all gears then shift to reverse and start all over.
