30 hp Johnson, need airbox, mid 1980's

I have a mid 1980's 30 hp Johnson. It doesn't have an air box. I'm not sure it ever did. It runs well but is LOUD ! I want to put some sort of an airbox on it.
What will fit and where can I get one?

Howdy,
All I can tell you for sure is that my '99 30hp johnson doesn't have an airbox. If your motor ever did, you can find it on the online parts catalog at crowneymarine.com or shopevinrude.com
Do you have the fiberglass cowl for your motor? If so, I wouldn't think it would be all that loud....

My '88 30hp doesn't have it either. I have a '81 25hp that does, but I'm not sure if it's much quieter than the 30hp. I don't consider either one loud though.

If the motor is that loud, try some foam blanked on the inside of the cowling. As for an air box, earlier ones had them, but they did away with them when they went to a primer system in the mid 1980s.

I have a 1983 Johnny 35hp...and it does not come with a airbox...The foam inside was kind of old and flaking..I went to a rug store and got a remnant of carpet foam....lined the inside with that using contact cement...did make a difference ..the guy sold me a 3x3 foot piece of foam for like 2.50...
