I was running the engine yesterday during some troubleshooting. I noticed a milky residue for the lower two carbs.. it was collecting at the (black nipple) or plastic niple that is in the center of the outer part of the carb.(looking into the carb, each carb had this little nipple in the center before the butterflies)

It was draining back from the throats, or so it seemed..

It was only doing it at the bottowm two carbs...and so using my finger i reached into the carb just before the butterfly and swiped all around and it was there as well..

Any idea what this might be? It was the color of the feul /gas mix per say but had a whiter appearence..

Thanks

Water mixing with oil. Have you serviced your water separating fuel filter?

Re: E140TXCD...milky Carb residue Question

A month ago I had added 6 gallons of fresh gas, and changed my feul sperator, I also added a large bottle of dry gas to the tank as well in efforts of drying whatever may have been in there..

I left my tank pretty dry(or as dry as i could) for the winter (inboard tank).. so when i uncovered, thats what i did first.

I'll pull the feul seperator today and check it out.

In hindsight..this may have been why I was cutting out...since water is more dense that feul it makes sense that its only the two bottom carbs...

Re: E140TXCD...milky Carb residue Question

Just pulled the feul seperator..

I see no visible signs of water, I then poured into a clear plastic container..and let stand for a minute.. I did see very minutes droplets of water collect, but nothing significant..

Yesterday, I cleared the bowls ..

could water get into the carb and mix any other way than the feul line??

Reason I ask is becasue i recently changed my mounts and did have to take the power head off.. I replaced all gaskets with new ones..can water infiltrate that way?..(im thinking no) but just asking..

Re: E140TXCD...milky Carb residue Question

Dry gas is alcohol which will promote more phase separation if the fuel it's added to is not used pretty quickly.

Petroleum products float on water so it's pretty hard to get it out of the float bowls unless you flush them.

You may just have some condensation.

We are in a very damp environment so keeping the tanks full and using fuel stabilizer is the way to go.

So what do you recommend??.. Should I fill the tank and add some stabilizers or just run with what i have to get it out and then fill with fresh gas??..

I can grab a new feul seperator today and chage that..

Re: E140TXCD...milky Carb residue Question

changed the feul seperator today. the feul seperator looked good but I changed it regardless..

I'm going to change the inline filter at the egine as well..Does anyone know of a good quality brand that may be better than others?

Also, I was going to clear the bowls again. What should the feul/gas mix look like or how do I tell if I have all the water out? will it all come out?

Lastly, would it make sense to try and pump all of the remainer of gas from the tank or is it salvagable with additives??..its only three weeks old..but given the milky look in the bowls I asume pump it out if thats the best or add stabil and run through it

Re: E140TXCD...milky Carb residue Question

I'm not a believer in redundant fuel filters; it puts way too much load on the pumps. VRO/OMS oil tanks have their own filters in the oil tank.

Use the fuel and empty the water separating fuel filter more often. That should get rid of the water. The water will settle to the bottom of the tank, so most of it will get picked up and will be caught by the filter if the filter can hold it.

Re: E140TXCD...milky Carb residue Question

The water could be condensation from the air. It gets cold in the venturi area and that causes condensation, just like your ice tea glass sweats.

And I suppose it could be water that is absorbed by the alcohol in the fuel.

Personally, I wouldn't give it a second thought.
