85 evinrude no power at wot

ok i have been fighting with this for awhile now so i bit the bullet and took it to the shop had carbs and fuel pump redid and new left side power pack put it and still put it in the water and at wot the front end lifts up and has no speed i can swim faster i have no idea and the shop is starting to cost to much what else can be wrong please help

also how can i tell what pitch for the prop i have theres nothing on the prop what i am i suppose to have please help

You might want to return it to the shop that just repaired it. Sounds as if they never fixed the original problem. It's a little hard to make a diagnosis based on your information. Usually prop pitch recommendations are based upon the top rpm the engine will run when on plane. Hard to do that when it won't plane. Some basic information as to the size/type of boat and current prop pitch would be helpful. Some things to check: engine compression. Make sure the engine is tucked all the way in when throttling up. Check your spark on each plugwire with an inductive timing light when trying to get on plane. Make sure your carb butterflys are opening all the way and that the timer base (spark) is advancing properly.

some specifics on the motor would help. is it model year 1985? or 85 hp?


when you brought it to the shop, did you ask them to find out what was wrong or did you bring it in and say rebuild the carbs and fuel pump as well as replace the power pack?


what is the engine doing when you are at WOT, are the rpms high or low?

sorry it is an 1985 evinrude 90 hp i took it to the shop and told him what it was doing and almost $700 later its doing the same thing when i am at wot the front lifts and has no speed it is a 15 ft chaparral i dont want to take it back because i took it once and he did carbs and fuel pump then took it back and did power pack and plugs i honestly think hes just guessing and my wallet is hurting from it please help if possible thanks
