1956 M.W. Sea King

I have a 1956 12 HP Sea King with electric start. The motor ran a few weeks ago but I can not seem to get it to start now. I took it apart and cleaned the carb. Noticed the outline for fuel was really cracked at the carb so I will put a new one on but need to know what size. Also I am trying to go through the basics on what to be looking for. Start off with fuel, spark and what not, I also noticed that when I blew into the fuel line going into the carb it was real hard and dont know if I should freely tell if the line is clear?? Also notice that when it was hooked up and I squeezed on the bulb fuel came out at the motor where the male and female adapter connected even though it was connected properly. Any ideas on where to start?? and does anyone have a manual in PDF they could e mail me?? Took the carb off and there was plenty of fuel in it but what will cause the fuel to leak between the male and female adapters at the motor?

There is an o-ring in the female adapter. Replace it. Or just replace the whole female adapter. It is the same as Evinrude and Johnson motors and available everywhere, including here at iboats.

Have you checked the coils yet? If they haven't already been replaced, you can bet the farm that they are cracked. They are available here at iboats also.

So what is the easiest way to remove the flywheel without a harmonic puller or is there or am I supposed to see the coils through an inspection plate??

ok..So I took off the inspection cover on the flywheel and rotated so I could see the coils and yes they are cracked. Not to bad but cracked non the less. I only have basic tools so is there a way for me to replace the coils and set he points back to 20* or what am I looking at cost wise to have someone do it??

Had the motor running for a few minutes before it died. Any thoughts?? Coil???

Undoubtedly! And dirty points.

Pullers are available VERY inexpensively from places like Horror Freight. Even auto parts store pricing is affordable even to cash-poor retirees such as myself.
If you intend to do your own maintenance they are a necessity so just bite the bullet and get one.

Replacement coils are available at NAPA outlets and many other auto parts stores under Sierra p/n 18-5181. Perhaps the store you get to order the coils for you will have a 'loaner' puller you can use?

Borrow a torque wrench too. You need it to reinstall the flywheel. Torque the nut to 40-45 foot pounds. Very important!!

So I cant seem to find the replacement coils here on I boats. an you put me in the right direction?

Simply look for 5.5hp Johnson coils. Exact same ignition system.
