I'm working on restoring a 1980 Ski Supreme and have a few question.. First question I have is while the boat is apart (flooring out) should I go ahead and replace the mufflers? They are 30 year old and figure if be better to replace the mufflers while the floors out. Also is there any positive points of going with 4" exhaust over 3"? I was thinking about going with the Primex Ski Boat Silencer Mufflers, but does anyone know how the sound? I like the sound of the original mufflers on the inboard so I was hoping this would sound close.

Next question is the foam in the bow, should I replace that or just let it be? The boat seems to be heavy in the bow while going slow speeds (iqxoqlms said his ski supreme does the same thing)? I didn't know maybe the foam has gotten water logged? Thanks for any help.

Re: 1980 Ski Supreme Restoration

Welcome to iboats! Please note we like our photos at 640 x 480 :)

Okay The muffler question ....I would replace them with the same.

As far as the foam....... take a piece of pvc pipe and take a core sample of the foam and/or take a very dry thin piece of pine wood and hammer it through the foam and leave it alone for a few days and pull it out.... if it's wet it will show on the wood.

Wet foam = trash no choice. It never dries out so just replace it!

Hey,
You got anymore pictures on your project? My 78 ski supreme look alot like yours underneath. What kind of plywood and what thickness did you go back with? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm in the process of tearing mine out!
