Saw this while looking around at classifieds and am considering going to look at it. It comes from a dealership, but this outdrive looks a little banged up which concerns me. What do you think of this?

Is it me or is it missing part of the skeg & does that prop look pretty rough?

It's on a 2001 Bayliner Capri Classic 1952 listed for $8495 w/ a 3.0L. I'd probably try and offer $6500 if it's in good shape.

You are right, good chunk of the skeg is missing and it needs a new prop for sure.:D

Yes, there is a big chunk missing out of the skeg, the prop has spent a lot of time in rocks and sand from the looks of it.
Yes, all that beating and banging on the prop and skeg can contribute to gear failure. Maybe not now but usually within a hundred hours of a hard hit the gear teeth start breaking. Not saying that drive had that kind of hit, I have no clue, but it does happen.

Went to check out this boat tonight & make an offer only to find out someone snatched it up earlier today... GRRRR!!! I wish I was loaded so I could just plop down money on whatever strikes my fancy the minute I see it... this boat hunting crap is for the birds.

Don't be too hard on yourself. It's quite possible this one got away for a good reason. That prop was sure banged up, that skeg chunk didn't just fall away- maybe you just dodged an expensive bullet. Just keep telling yourself that until you feel better!

Probably right, but it sure looked nice in the ad. There's another almost exactly the same in NJ 2 hrs away for the same price minus the outdrive damage. However, I'm certain it's a salt-water boat which has me leery.
